A Comprehensive Plan is a guide for making policies and decisions for future Sumter development. The Plan is updated every five years.
We envision Americus-Sumter County as a vibrant, culturally diverse community with an
excellent educational system, a well-balanced transportation network, and an appropriate
balance of industry, retail, restaurants, corporations, and housing stock that provide
quality development for the places we live, work, learn, and play. We will utilize our land,
make public investments and manage our natural and cultural resources in a manner that
