SCORE is a non-profit resource partner of the Small Business Administration -- an organization of over 10,500 volunteers with over 300 offices across the nation.

SCORE's mentors, comprised of active and retired businessmen and women, provide clients with free and confidential business counseling. Counseling can be conducted at the Rees Park facility, a coffee shop, the mentee’s business, or by telephone or email.

SCORE, the Development Authority, Chamber of Commerce, and One Sumter will be offering a special breakfast meeting for potential mentors herein the Rees Park Economic Development Center.

Better than a friend or neighbor, YOU already have the experience and knowledge to stimulate the professional growth of another by:

  • Offering encouragement, becoming a trusted advisor
  • Helping a business owner think through more significant decisions
  • Refining a view of a successful business
  • Sharing an impartial perspective to bounce ideas
  • Being involved in the mentee's business 'big picture'
  • Providing your knowledge and information
  • Listening and listening more
  • Letting others learn from your successes and mistakes
  • Setting the tone of learning by demonstrating your commitment

Most importantly, you don't need to be an expert on everything, there are other SCORE sources and resources for that!

Why offer your time and knowledge?

  • Develop your skills as a teacher, business owner or manager
  • Give back to your community -- more importantly, the Sumter community
  • Learn from your clients by sharing ideas. Gain an outside perspective
  • Use lunch or coffee time with another in need of your ear
  • Build personal relationships
  • Have your commitment recognized as your mentee 'pays it forward'
