Americus Wins Again! Congratulations, Americus, Georgia: Winning for a Second Time the Designation of 2021 Top Micropolitan!


Americus, GA, March 2, 2022 - Within the micropolitan category of 123 competing communities with populations under 50,000, Americus ranked #39, moving up from the #55 spot in 2020. Americus can also claim its tie with Fitzgerald and Thomasville for the number two spot in Georgia!

This national competition included eight other Georgia winners: Jefferson, Fitzgerald, Thomasville, Bainbridge, Jesup, LaGrange, St. Mary’s, and Tifton. Jefferson ranked as the highest Georgia city, tied for 14th place with North Carolina and Ohio towns.

Georgia tied the #3 national spot with North Carolina for having the most Top Micropolitans (9), bringing 25 qualifying economic projects to our state. Ohio took the top place.

The Top Micropolitan designation denotes Americus as a top-performing city based on economic development projects with significant impact, landed in 2021, within-population parameters.
